ALB Kenneth Thelwall launched on rescue for small fishing vessel "FIG" with engine trouble out of Holyhead.
The vessel suffered engine failure while fishing in the church bay area of Anglesey, the single fisherman on board Mr. Hudson was swept into the water. Fortunately he was able to climb back on board and call for help.
The Holyhead Lifeboat arrived within an hour and took Mr. Hudson on board; he was thought to require medical treatment so he was landed at Holyhead Fish Dock into an awaiting ambulance.
Anglesey mobile coastguards were keeping an eye on Mr. Hudson from the land until the Lifeboat arrived.

"Exercise Snowdon"
The Holyhead Lifeboat, Kenneth Thelwall was involved in a major maritime and coastguard exercise. This exercise involved search ands rescue, counter pollution, salvage control, media coverage from the central office of information. Exercise Director, Peter Morris says:
"Exercise Snowdon will be one of the largest maritime emergency and counter pollution exercises ever to be held in the UK. Local and national oil spill contingency plans of the participating authorities will be exercised to test the alerting, mobilization and management of resources for search and rescue and the welfare of survivors; counter pollution at sea and on the shoreline and marine emergency and salvage operations."
Holyhead Lifeboat was launched at 07:10 Wednesday 6th February 2001 and played a valid part in the exercise and returned to station with two casualties who were treated for hypothermia and then released, no further treatment required.

At 01:11am Caernarfon shire police alerted Holyhead Coastguard that a man who was being very aggressive intended to throw himself into Holyhead Harbour, Holyhead Coastguard requested Holyhead Inshore Lifeboat to launch immediately but fortunately before they launched the man was rescued by police and safely taken away. Holyhead Coastguard released the Holyhead Lifeboat at 01:30am.
Weather conditions- bitterly cold, Strong winds and fine rain.

At 20:52 B.S.T. The Holyhead All Weather Lifeboat to a vessel out of the Menai Straits to Holyhead, the name of Restless 3 two persons and a dog aboard. The engine was overheating and making little headway against wind and tide, picked up and towed to Holyhead sailing club moorings, returned to moorings ready for service at 2210 B.S.T. Holyhead lifeboat launched on rescue to a boat a diving rib name [ Fat Albert ] belonging to the Farnsworth sub aqua club near Manchester it was drifting with engine failure 8 miles out of holyhead in s s w 5 winds mod sea conditions 2 p.o.b the boat and crew were taken to safety and landed at Bull Bay no first aid required the lifeboat returned back to her moorings at Holyhead .

27th may 1500 hrs Holyhead inshore Lifeboat launched on rescue to a jet ski the weather thick sea mist and winds 3-4 knots the jet ski was safely landed and no first aid required the Lifeboat returned to station 1600 hrs at HOLYHEAD

The rescue involved the all weather Arun class lifeboat this was at 03-40 am in pouring rain and high winds and fog to a 33 ft sailing boat Lady Olivia on passage from Dun Laoghaire to Conway the boat got into difficulties 7 miles out off Holyhead near the Skerries light the Holyhead lifeboat took the boat under tow and safely brought them to Holyhead to a sailing club mooring , there were 3 people on the boat they were very tired and one was suffering from sea sickness .the lifeboat returned to her moorings at 0600 am the owner was from the Stockport area river street.
Wed. 6th June
Aprx. 14:00hrs Holyhead ALB responded to a mayday 21 miles North West of the Skerries Light to a yacht named Penboch Too, a 33ft 1937 prize of war. The yacht, which had lost its mast was struggling to clear the rigging and debris. 3 male persons on board, one with minor injuries. The weather conditions were - thick fog, driving rain and winds of up to force 8. The lifeboat was able to pass a tow and safely tow the yacht back to holyhead harbour arriving back at holyhead marina at 19:45hrs
Fri 8th June
Aprx. 18:00hrs Massive rescue operation involving Holyhead Alb & Holyhead ILB and three other lifeboats, 3 helicopters and up to 50 coastguard cliff rescue personnel also the Jonathan Swift Fast-ferry and a Privately owned yacht "Blackjack" of Holyhead. Also a fishing vessel which was passing by. All called to a canoeist who reported himself to the coastguard on his mobile telephone. The canoeist who was aprx 7 miles out past the Skerries light and in difficulties including himself becoming hypothermic the canoeist was in the water for approximately two and a half hours before being picked up and transferred to Bangor Hospital by an RAF. Sea King Helicopter based at Valley. The Kayak was recovered and returned to the Lifeboat station. The canoeist is recovering and is very grateful to everybody concerned with the rescue.

HOLYHEAD ILB CALLED OUT 5.30 AM TO A LADY SOME 100 YARD FROM SHORE SHE WAS IN THE SANDY BEACH AREA HOLYHEAD IT WAS NOT CLEAR WHY SHE WAS THERE . FIRST AID GIVEN BY COASTGUARD MOBILE UNIT .

HOLYHEAD LIFEBOAT, ALB, TREADDUR BAY ILB ,RAF SEAKING HELICOPTER ,CALLED FOR A MISSING DIVER 20 MILES OUT TO SEA REGRETFULLY THE DIVER WAS NOT FOUND THE LIFEBOATS AND HELICOPTERS WERE RELEASED. HOLYHEAD LIFEBOAT RETURNED TO HOLYHEAD AT 3 am.

HOLYHEAD LIFEBOAT CREW HELPED TO RECOVER DIVERS BODY 15 MILES OUT OF HOLYHEAD ,THIS WAS THE SAME DIVER LOST ON 1ST JULY HE WAS FOUND BY HIS FRIENDS WHO HAD SEARCHED REPEATEDLY FOR HIM OUR THOUGHTS GO TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS AT THIS TIME OF SADNESS. THE HOLYHEAD LIFEBOAT CREW.

Holyhead ALB and Holyhead ILB called out for missing boat one p.o.b after 30 mins RAF sea-king called to assist cliff rescue teems also out searching cliffs and coves after 1.30 hrs he was spotted by LIFEBOAT at Carmel head and rescued the casualty had no survival eqpt at all he was taken to Holyhead and treated for de-hydration at LIFEBOAT STATION weather was in his favor returned to station 0145 am.

Holyhead ALB answers may day call the boat a 30ft sailboat name "PALLO" on passage to Liverpool had lost steering and drifting 16 miles south west of the stacks the lifeboat arrived at 05-40 am when the owner informs the crew that he has repaired the fault and can make his own way this he did and lifeboat returned to holyhead at 08-00 am sea cons good little wind good visibility

Holyhead Alb at anchor in Trearddur Bay for regatta when two divers surfaced and signaled for help the Holyhead Lifeboat winched them on board in less than 5 mins . the weather on seen was very windy force 5-6 sea state rough , the divers where transferred to Trearddur Bay ILB and taken to shore no first aid required.

Holyhead ILB launched to an adrift dinghy with 10yr old on board, from the yacht Pimento in holyhead harbour and was being carried out by offshore winds, ILB quickly took him on board no first aid rqrd.

Holyhead ALB launched to the 22ft yacht waxwing at position - 53-19N 44-79W off North Stack running low on fuel stuck in tidal race requested assistance, Lifeboat attached tow and returned safely to Holyhead harbour were the yacht picked up its sailing club mooring. No first aid req'd. Crew believed to be from the Cheshire Area. Wind NE - 4/5 Sea State - Mod/Rough.

Holyhead ILB launched for 13 ft fishing boat 1 mile off North Stack with a rope around propeller 2 male p.o.b weather calm no wind boat towed to holyhead no first aid req'd call to coast guard by mobile phone no life jackets to be seen.

Holyhead ALB along with Trearddur Bay Lifeboat were launched to a 16 foot speedboat that had sunk 1 Nm North of South Stack Lighthouse. North Wales Police helicopter was first to spot casualties floating in the water, T.Bay Lifeboat picked up all three casualties it was necessary to transfer two of the casualties to Holyhead's ALB,1 casualty was airlifted by RAF Sea King Helicopter from 122 Sqn Valley suffering from hypothermia. The 2nd on board Holyhead's lifeboat was considered too severe to be airlifted off the boat and was transferred to Holyhead and then onto the helicopter helped by Holyhead cliff rescue team who were waiting at Holyhead. The owner was from the Trearddur bay area. Sea conditions were 5-6 sea state -Rough

Holyhead ALB launched by CG to 38ft Yacht "Breakaway" 2 pob on passage from Ireland to Holyhead 1 mile North on the Breakwater end. The yacht was struggling in heavy seas. Wind force 7-8 Sea State Very Rough. Yacht towed safely into holyhead harbour and onto a sailing club mooring by Lifeboat Crew. Crew of Yacht were extremely tired but no first aid req'd.

Holyhead ILB launched for two jet bikes near Ceamaes Bay ILB stood down as they made there own way ashore c/g mobile met them on the beach no first aid req'd weather good winds mod to fresh .

HOLYHEAD ALB launched to a yacht "Trivial Persuit" 3 p.o.b on her way from Holyhead to Fleetwood she had a fishing net around her propeller and was in the separation zone 15 miles out to the north the lifeboat took her in tow and brought her back to holyhead at 0410 am sat morning no first aid req'd weather was v/good no wind sea flat calm

Holyhead Lifeboat launched 20 miles west of Holyhead
Passenger onboard the Stena Explorer, a young male was seen to jump off the stern of the ferry. Along with a helicopter from Raf Valley and a Irish coastguard helicopter the lifeboat searched for 5 hours but to no avail the coastguard called off the search at 500am weather on scene was calm seas and light winds lifeboat back on station 5:15am

Holyhead Lifeboat launched 2 miles west of Holyhead to the yacht "Tremayne" three p.o.b the yacht had lost her rudder in heavy seas, the lifeboat took the yacht in tow and brought her into holyhead and into the new marina, one man was sick but required no first aid the lifeboat returned to her mooring at 1450pm

Holyhead's two Lifeboats along with lifeboat 52-17 and two lifeboats from Treaddur bay and cliff rescue teams searched after a member of the public reported seeing a body on the rocks near south stack light house after 2 hours nothing found and search called of weather was good light winds all returned to station approx 15-15pm the holyhead coast guard coordinated the search

Holyhead lifeboat launched 15 miles n/west Holyhead to 16 mtr fishing boat name FIN'AR'BED which had hit something in the water the vessel started to sink and the crew took to there lifer aft also RAF SEA KING FROM VALLEY scrambled and picked up the three p.o.b, all were safely airlifted to HOLYHEAD no first aid req'd and lifeboat returned to holyhead at 1530pm weather on the day good little wind sea calm.

Holyhead Coast guard called out and coordinated the Holyhead lifeboat, Trearddur bay lifeboat, Rhoscolyn coast rescue/ Holyhead coast rescue responded to a reported car over the South Stack cliffs reported by the local police the coast rescue team put two men down the cliff face and quickly confirmed there were no casualties in the car the car had apparently been dumped a helicopter from Raf Valley 122 sq were also put on standby but stood down. All rescue teams returned to stations. Weather on scene cold winds, sea mod to rough. A call with good intent.

Holyhead ilb launched on service to person trapped in caves of North Stack area of Holyhead the young man a 17 year old local lad had been washed out of his canoe in a tidal race his farther who was with him managed to get him ashore to the cave mouth he had been in the water over half an hour he then paddled for help the coast guard were alerted and sent out cliff rescue team from holyhead and ilb from holyhead the lad was picked up and taken back to holyhead for a check up no first aid required he was released back to his farther
